I am just a normal guy and I’ve been suffering from heartburn half my life. Although there  Reflux Foods and seeking simple dietary help, you can live an almost acid-free life.

It can be different foods that cause an adverse reaction in different people. For example, my Dad would react very badly to cucumber, whereas I can eat a reasonable amount without any bad effects. But cheese! Any type of cheese is a killer for me – especially when eaten late at night.

Overall, there are certain foods it is best to avoid altogether. Reflux Foods that can cause major problems include garlic, because it has a relaxing effect on the sphincter at the end of the esophagus that controls food in your stomach. When this sphincter relaxes, it can easily cause a reflux of foods up into your throat, which can cause that terrible burning sensation and that sour taste in your mouth.

It is always best to eat smaller meals at regular intervals throughout the day rather than having two or three large meals. Little and often should be your motto. Finally, you should never eat before you go to bed. Allow at least four hours between eating and going to sleep. With many people reflux occurs mainly at night-time,  when the body has slowed down for sleep, and so is not working so hard digesting the food.
